It's that time of the year again when unpredictable weather patterns and the approaching holidays can make us feel unsettled or downright anxious. We don't know which clothes to pull out of the closet and we might find ourselves being pushed in many different directions. Our sleep might be off and we often feel forgetful or spacey. This is typical for this time of year when vata (the energy of movement) is more prominent.
The sister science of Yoga, the vast ancient teachings of Ayurveda can help us to create balance and stay centered in our lives. In passing conversation last week, a fellow yogi commented that bringing Ayurveda into your life gives you permission to tap into your radical common sense.
It all starts with awareness and a commitment to self-care. After paying attention to how we really feel physically, mentally and emotionally in every moment, we can get a little more grounded by stripping away what doesn't nourish us.
You can try these three simple strategies for cultivating self-care as you move through your days this month:
- Lovingly establish a rhythm or routine for sleep & meals
- Feed yourself warm foods & herbal teas
- Bring touch into your life through daily self-massage using warm oil
Whatever you do, however, be mindful about simplifying your lifestyle behaviors rather than adding another layer of responsibility.
